 INTRODUCTION

               The Atreyee English Medium School, a brain child of Mr. Dilip Dhar, (1933-1995) a dedicated social worker, a forseer, and a man of insight and of high academic mind and personality, was established in 1976 with many sided-aims and objectives, admirably recognized and greatly appreciated through more than three decades.
                  This institution of academic execellence and qualitively high standard has long since equated itself with the best modern such institutions not only in the district or the state but also with those at the national level. its pedagogic perfection, teaching standard and man-making mission have attracted the minds of parents and gurdians from across our national border and inspired them to send their children to this institution to be properly and adequately educated.
                   This institution is devoted to provide education to pupils through the modern method of teaching, based on ancient Indian system, with special emphasis on the devlopment of body, mind and life. It has become a name in the academic realm and is affilated with the Central Borad of Secondary Education, New Delhi, as a secondary school with effect from May 1, 1984 and as a Senior Secondary School with effect from May 1, 1986 with diversified courses.

 

LOCATION

The campus of the Institution is located almost adjacent to Atreyee river with a beautiful scenic natural background around it. It is situated at Mongalpur, a new locality with a walking distance from the centre of Balurghat, the district town of Dakshin Dinajpur.  

 

 

 

FEATURES 

 A spacious plot of land attached to the State Highway leading to Hilli, bordering with Bangladesh. It has well-planned multi-storeyed buildings with class-rooms comfortably spacious, well ventilated and scientifically designed. The wide and vast area of the institution's campus includes a playground for all sorts of games and sports with trained teachers and instructors to coach, train and guide pupils. Security gates provide adequate security to them during teaching hours and round the clock security to the pupils staying in hostels.
                                             Pupils are taught on the basis of the latest teaching methods with the help of modern and scientific teaching aids (audio-visual) system introduced by Grade 1 educational institutions of the country, by adequately qualified and trained teachers with dynamic personality. Teachers' devotion to and sincerity of teaching at classrooms have merited high admirations of gurdians, attend appreciation of the Management and visiting educationists and brought complete satisfaction to the reading pupils.
                                             Within the campus there are hostel facilities for both boys and girls with trained and experienced hostel superintendents to look after them and also to guide and help them in their studies. Individual care is taken for pupils staying in hostels to lead a sound and healthy life. Primary medical facilities for pupils are available in the campus. In addition to these, canteen and bookstall inside the campus provide them additional facilities to get their reading and writing materials. The Institution provide safe vehicle facilities for pupils to reach the Institution on time.

 

 

 

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

 

          The Institution is set up with the aims to impart eduction to the pupils on the basis of the syllabuses for Class I to XII introduced and prescribed by C.B.S.E., New Delhi through the medium of English language, Its primary aims are to devlop and strenghten their english language skills-speaking and writing -, to promote and nurture their innate interests in the subjects, to counsell and guide them properly, to encourage and inspire their inventive and creative minds and abilities and above all, to direct their attention and interests towards science and computer science.
               The basic objectives are to make the pupils discliplined in all areas of life, to instil into them moral values, to teach them the principles of ideal life and obedience to parents, teachers and elders, to inspire them to abide by the rules and regulations of the institution, to create in them a strong habit of reading and learning, to train their cultural minds, to reinforce their national spirit, and above all, to inculate in them the unquenchable desire to attain execellences in their academic life and the sense of duty and responsibility.

 

 

 

MANAGEMENT

          The school is run and managed by a Committee nominated by the Governing Body of the Atreyee Welfare Trust, Balurghat, District Dakshin Dinajpur, a non-profit social service organizition, registered with the Government.

 

 

 

CURRICULUM

           The school has three Pre-primary classes of Nursery KG-I & KG-II in addition to classes from I to XII. The syllabuses of Central Board of Secondary Education, New-Delhi and N.C.E.R.T. are followed in the school. The medium of instruction is English.

 

 

 

LIBRARY

           The school has well-equipped library with books on various curricular and co-curricular subjects in English, Hindi & Bengali languages. A good number of periodicals, magazines and newspapers are readily available for reading. A trained and experienced librarian helps the pupils to select and provide books for their reading in Library Hall.

 

 

 

LABORATORY    

          There are seperate and well equipped laboratories for practical classes of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Mathematics.

 

 

 

 

 

 COMPUTER-EDUCATION

          Computer is taught as a compulsory subject from Class IV to XII by duly qualified and experienced teachers.

 

 

 

 

 GAMES AND SPORTS

           Utmost care is taken for physical and mental growth and devlopment of the pupils through games and sports. In addition to athletics and calisthenics, there is provision for the games of Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Cricket, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Table-Tennis, basket-Ball etc.

 

 


     

PRIZES AND AWARDS 

          The pupils win awards in various Inter-Schools, Sub-Divisional, Inter-District, State and National Competitions.
The Institution awards a great number of prizes in recognition of the pupils' merits in different disciplines every year in the Annual Cultural Function and the Annual Sports Day of the School.

 

 


 

 EXAMINATIONS

           There will be First Terminal, Second Terminal and Third Terminal Examinations of 100 marks for each subject in addition to five unit tests (Class-Tests) of 10 marks each during every full academic session. Marking scheme towrads weightage of annual results will be as follows for each subject- 10 marks on aggregate to five unit tests; 20 marks each on first terminal and second terminal examinations; and 50 marks on the third terminal examination, making the total as 100. Minimum pass marks for each subject is 33. In addition to pass marks in the individual subjects, a pupil must obtain 40% marks in aggregate to declare himself/herself successful. According to rules and instructions as laid down by C.B.S.E. the grading system of evaluation has been introduced from Classes Nursery to VIII.

 

 

 

 

BOOKSTALL         

          All listed books prescribed by C.B.S.E. and additional reference books relevant to each subject are available in the Book Stall inside the school campus. Books are supplied from the stall on cash payment.

 


 

HOSTELS                           

         Hostel facilities are provided to a limited number of students in seperate hostels for boys and girls within the school campus. The hostels are managed and supervised by the Chief Hostel Superintendents and a good number of staff. The overall management of the hostels is entrusted to the Governing Body of the Trust. Boys and Girls are not permitted to keep cash or valuable articles including transistors, music systems, cell-phones etc. in their possession.
